Northern Ireland, in the
northeast corner of the island of Ireland, is one of the four
constituent nations of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland. The nation has an unique and fascinating complexity because of
the political factions in the population. Northern Ireland's history in
the world's greatest beauty contest began in 2000 and two contestants
had reached the semifinals in 2005 and 2006. This year, the nation will
be represented by Lori Moore, who won the Miss Northern Ireland 2010 pageant last June.

Trò chuyện cùng Miss Northern Ireland 2010 - Lori Moore Northernireland1
1. Give us an introduction of yourself.
My name is Lori Moore; I am 19 years old and live in Belfast. Prior to
winning the Miss Northern Ireland title I attended Northumbria
University where I had just completed my first year of Advertising
Management. This is something that I intend to complete as education is
very important to me and I hope to work within the fashion advertising
industry in the future as this is my real passion. My hobbies include
musical theatre as I am a member of Fusion Theatre Company where I have
appeared in shows such as Calamity Jane in which I played Katie Brown as
well as Pirates of Penzance and Les Miserables. I also enjoy most
sports however my strengths lie in hockey as I have played for eight
years and represented my school, university, club and Belfast on several
occassions. I am also a keen athlete and have previously represented
Ulster for triple jump in which I was placed 4th in Ireland, an
achievement that I am very proud of. I would describe myself as a
hardworking, outgoing and enthusiastic person as I strive to do the best
I can at everything I do and without these attributes this would not be
possible.

2. Tell us a bit more about your country and hometown.
Northern Ireland is the smallest of the four countries which form the
United Kingdom with a population of 1.8 million. It consists of six
counties where the main language is English but Irish and Ulster-Scots
is also spoken. Belfast is the capital city and is also my home town.
It is a great place to live as there is an excellent education system, a
fabulous range of shops and restaurants which continues to expand and
most importantly the people are perhaps the most friendly in the world.

Ireland is most famous as the birthplace of the Titanic, the infamous
Giants Causeway and the unforgettable Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis
which was inspired by the Mourne Mountains. I love living there and am
very proud to be representing Miss Northern Ireland.

3. What does it mean to you to represent your country at Miss World?
I am very honored to be Miss Northern Ireland 2010 as many others
entered the competition and I feel privileged to have been selected to
fulfill the role. This alone is a great title which I hope to carry out
to the highest standard possible but to represent my country at the
prestigious Miss World Contest is truly unbelievable. I feel it is a
once in a life time opportunity to showcase not only myself but also,
and more importantly, to promote what Northern Ireland has to offer so
that the rest of the world regards it as highly as I do.

4. What preparations have you done so far for the Miss World final?
I feel it is necessary not just for the Miss World final but in general
to have a healthy lifestyle and so I am continuing to eat a well
balanced diet and exercise regularly however I have cut down on the
amount of treats I am allowed to two a week as well as taking up
different exercise classes such as Thai bo and Pilates. I have also
begun singing lessons to improve for the talent section which I am
thoroughly enjoying.

As
the representative of Northern Ireland I feel it is of vital importance
to know as much about the country as possible and so have been carrying
out research as well as going on trips to see and learn more. I have
also been researching China and in particular Sanya which I find very
interesting especially learning common and everyday phrases in Mandarin
as I like the challenge.

5. If you have to describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?

I would say optimistic as I am a very positive and outgoing person. I
believe something good can come from every situation and that each
person has something positive to contribute and so I try to make the
most of what I have which in turn benefits me and those around me.

6. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I hope to have completed my degree in Advertising Management and to be
working my way up in the fashion industry, perhaps within a fashion
magazine. I also see myself to continue modeling part time as it is
something that I enjoy very much. As I will be 30 I hope to be married
and thinking about starting a family because this is something very
important to me. Within the next ten years I also hope to have run a
marathon and traveled the world.

7. Would you prefer being beautiful and rich or poor and smart?
I believe there are advantages of both for if you were beautiful and
rich you could use your beauty to raise awareness for worthy causes and
offer your riches to better the situation while on the other hand if you
were poor and smart you could use your intelligence to achieve the
optimum outcome for as the saying goes ‘knowledge is power’. I
personally would choose to be poor and smart because money cannot buy
happiness and with time your looks will fade however intelligence lasts a
lifetime and will only grow stronger as you learn more throughout life.

8. Which well known person from your country you most admire and why?
The most famous person from Northern Ireland is the legendary late
George Best, ex Manchester United football player and one of the first
celebrities within the industry. I admire him for what he did on the
football field for he was fit, skillful and dedicated which explains why
he is thought of as one of the greatest footballers of all time however
this was only achieved through hard work and practice. I think George
Best is a symbol of hope to the people of Northern Ireland and many
others across the world because he showed that it doesn't matter where
you come from, as long as you have a talent and are prepared to give it
100% you can achieve your goal.

9. If you had to choose any other country to live in, which one would you choose and why?
I would choose Italy as it is a country with such a deep history and
culture seen in the beautiful old city of Rome as well as having one of
the most modern and fashion influential cities in the world, Milan.
Italian food happens to be my favorite as it so foursome and healthy
which is clear to see through the youthfulness and vitality of the
population. Another swaying factor is the climate as some regions are
hot where I could enjoy relaxing and sunbathing along the beautiful
coastlines or choose to go skiing in the colder regions which host some
of the best resorts on the world. I would describe life in Italy to be
simple and sophisticated which is a lifestyle I would be happy to lead.

10. What do you think is the biggest problem facing the world today and what should be done about it?
I believe that poverty is still the biggest problem facing the world
which is such a shame as many organisations have made claims to solve
the situation and yet almost half the world, over 3 billion people, live
on less than $2.50 per day. Lack of shelter, food and water as well as
the widespread HIV/Aids crisis results in 25000 people dyeing every
day. This is an outrage as it can be prevented by things that we in the
developed world take for granted.

Trò chuyện cùng Miss Northern Ireland 2010 - Lori Moore Northernireland3
I believe we live in a selfish society where the richest 20% of the
world account for 75% of global income and yet the less economically
developed countries are charged unrealistic interest rates on money
borrowed which I believe should not be in place. To solve the problem
will take a great deal of time, communication, generosity and compassion
from the leaders of the richest countries and in turn we all will have
to make small sacrifices for a short while however I feel it is
necessary.

11. Do you believe a beauty queen should be politically correct
when answering a controversial subject question or should she express
her personal views on the issue?

I believe it is vital to be politically correct with regards to the
selection of words and phrases used when expressing personal views for
although you may believe what you are saying is merely a matter of
opinion to someone listening perhaps from a different culture, religion,
sexuality or whatever the situation, this may not be the case and could
cause offence. However, I do believe that a beauty queen along with
the rest of the world has a right to their own opinion and should stay
true to their beliefs but at the same time should realise that not
everyone shares the same thoughts and so should be acceptant and
respectful to others.

12. What do you most look forward to about the Miss World Festival?
The whole festival in general is an amazing experience, one that I am
very much looking forward to especially meeting the other contestants
and preparing for the the final televised show. However, I am most
looking forward to visiting the various countries within China and
experiencing the different culture.

13. The winner of Miss World will be the 60th Miss World. Which former winner do you most admire and why?
I admire Agbani Darego, Miss World 2001, as she was the first black
African woman to receive the title. I am inspired by her for I too am
of Nigerian descent and am also the first black Miss Northern Ireland. I
also look up to Catherine Milligan, Miss World Talent 2006, for
although she did not win Miss World she is individually the most
successful contestant from Northern Ireland and has been kind to offer
me advice.

14. The motto of Miss World is Beauty with a Purpose. What does Beauty with a Purpose mean to you?
Beauty with a purpose is the true essence of Miss World and in turn Miss
Northern Ireland. As the title holder it provides the opportunity for
me to use my position to better others via raising awareness and
fundraising. I am currently working closely with the Northern Ireland
Childrens Hospice along with other worthy causes where I act as an
ambassador in order to gain more public support which is one of the
highlights of the job because I bring happiness to those less fortunate
than myself.

15. Share a message to your supporters and readers of World of Misses.
I am very much looking forward to traveling to China to compete in Miss
World and am very grateful for the opportunity. I am positive that it
is going to be an amazing experience, one which I intend to make the
most of, and appreciate all the support I am receiving.
Trò chuyện cùng Miss Northern Ireland 2010 - Lori Moore Northernireland7I
would like to say good luck to the rest of the contestants and that I
look forward to finally meeting you. I hope that in the 60th year of
the competition we put on the best show yet for all the fans and in
particular those of World of Misses and may the best woman win!
